Dr. Gelfand's research is focused on epidemiology, clinical trials, drug safety, and psoriasis. His epidemiology research focuses on the natural history of psoriasis and the risk of various health outcomes associated with psoriasis such as malignancy, diabetes/metabolic disorders, atherosclerosis/myocardial infarction, and psoriatic arthritis. These studies are examining how the chronic inflammatory nature of psoriasis itself can lead to various health outcomes which share similar immune abnormalities. Dr. Gelfand also designs and conducts studies aimed at evaluating novel therapies for skin lymphoma and imaging of skin cancers to improve diagnosis and treatment of these common tumors .
