Bayhealth's screening programs received the highest honor from the American College of Surgeons
Bayhealth's Cancer program includes three sites which are located in Milford and Dover Delaware. Bayhealth Hematology/Oncology Associates and Delaware Radiation Oncology Associates practice at all three cancer centers.
The Cancer Center at Milford is an integrated cancer center with chemotherapy and radiation oncology provided in one convenient location on the Milford Memorial Hospital campus. Opened in 2002, the Cancer Center at Milford provides high-quality care to patients in a soothing and comfortable environment with easy access through a separate entrance and parking facilities.
The Cancer Center at Kent was recently relocated on the second floor of Kent General Hospital, and provides chemotherapy services in a newly expanded spacious center featuring private treatment areas with individual televisions and other amenities to make treatment as comfortable as possible for patients and their loved ones.
The Cancer Center at Dover provides radiation oncology services a few short blocks from Kent General Hospital at 793 South Queen Street. In addition to a high energy linear accelerator, the most technologically advanced Trilogy linear accelerator was recently unveiled. Trilogy features image-guidance, robotics and respiratory gating technology for IGRT, IMRT, OBI, stereotactic radiosurgery and stereotactic radiation therapy. In addition, the departments are connected electronically through the IMPAC/EMR platform assuring the most accurate and timely communications across the campuses.
Construction is underway at Kent General Hospital in Dover on a more than $140 million expansion that includes a new comprehensive cancer center bringing radiation and medical oncology together in one convenient location when the facility is completed in 2011.
The oncology program also includes care coordination provided by MSW and RN staff along with a community outreach RN navigator to assure access to cancer screening by the uninsured and under-served populations. A clinical trials RN coordinator also screens all new patients for potential participation in clinical trials and then provides the caring link to help them through the process.
Bayhealth's breast care coordinator helps expedite the care of women with abnormal findings in their mammograms. As part of its commitment to technology, Bayhealth was the first in the region to offer MRI-guided biopsies to diagnose breast abnormalities. This means that Bayhealth is the only health care facility in the region to offer a full compliment of image-guided biopsies, including digital stereotactic core and ultrasound, and MRI-guided biopsies. Expert radiologists, surgeons, nurses and certified technologists work as a team providing women with the most sophisticated technology and caring support so that they have answers in a most stressful time of their lives.
