Obituary: "Premier General Surgeon" Ernest Rosato

The Philadelphia Inquirer carried the obituary of Ernest F. Rosato, MD, a professor of Surgery since 1974 and the former division chief of gastrointestinal surgery at Penn Medicine, who died of pancreatic cancer last Friday. In a tribute, Jeffrey Drebin, MD, PhD, chairman of the Department of Surgery, wrote that Rosato was recognized as "the premier general surgeon at HUP for decades." A clinical fellow of the American Cancer Society during his residency, Dr. Rosato received the Humanitarian Award from the Friends of the American Cancer Society in 2007 in recognition of the thousands of cancer patients who benefited from his care, and he was the recipient of many awards for teaching new physicians. "Dr. Rosato always placed great emphasis on medical education, integrating medical students and house staff seamlessly into the care of his surgical patients," Drebin wrote.
