A New Breakthrough in Fighting Leukemia

December 16, 2013

In continuing coverage of last week's announcement of the latest findings of a Penn Medicine trial using reprogrammed versions of leukemia patients' own cells to fight their cancer, CBS's "The Doctors" aired a segment featuring the first pediatric patient to receive the experimental new therapy, more than a year and a half ago. She appeared on the show alongside her parents and her doctor, Stephan Grupp, MD, PhD, a professor of Pediatrics. The trial's other leaders, Carl June, MD, a professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and director of Translational Research in the Abramson Cancer Center, and David Porter, MD, a professor of Medicine and director of Blood and Marrow Transplantation in the Abramson Cancer Center, were also featured in the segment.
