Interest in neurological paraneoplastic syndromes was enjoying a renaissance when Josep Dalmau arrived in New York City, USA, in 1988. A native of Sabadell, on the outskirts of Barcelona, Spain, Dalmau attended college and medical school at the University Autonoma of Barcelona.
