The terms "paraneoplastic neurologic disorders (PND)" or "paraneoplastic neurologic syndromes (PNS)" are used to describe many conditions that affect the nervous system (brain, spinal cord, nerves or muscles) in patients with cancer.
"Paraneoplastic" means that the neurologic problem is not caused by the cancer itself, but by disturbances that the cancer causes in the body, particularly in the immune system.
